Unnecessary news!

In a vain effort to keep this site up-to-date there is news. I have changed the layout, the last site seemed like a good idea at the time but the colours were insipid. So with some help from the Tango! there are now colours for everyone. I am not sure how long they will stay. Making your own website is the hardest thing of all.

On the work front I am working for Envy Publications and sometimes for EshopCreator, both fine people.

There is much work in the pipe line that will be revealed as soon as it goes live after month of toil there is a lot waiting to launch.

that is all.

No U.

GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP!)

Today I did something amazing. today i opened a cymk image in gimp. Oh hello Gimp 2.6 with gegl stuff. I don’t really know what gegl is (well i do a bit) but i am sure many people will babble on about the technical advances made. I am sure that technically it is very clever. Some people won’t care but i work in what could be called a ‘design environment’ Gimp 2.6 is the first time i can really share the same files with COWORKERS and fancy schmacy Photoshop.

It is the first time in a long time I have been excited about anything to do with gnu/linux, perhaps it made me believe again ;)

Ye Olde

What is fun is looking at stuff you did and saying how crap it was. So here is the first attempt at our site.

You have to start somewhere?

What Happened?

Our Hosts, who are basically crap (we need to change them) lost all our data. I contacted them last Sunday to ask them what was going on, they said it was just a power outage and that it woud be back in two hours. So five hours later I asked them again, they said that it was fine and really in a couple of hours it would be back up.

The next day I again spoke to them they said that they were just running fsck on the drive and that it might take a while, but after that there woudl be no problems.

The next time I contacted them they said the drive was corrupt and that it was hard to say how long it would take, but not to worry that all the data was safe.

The next time I contacted them they told me all the data was lost and that I could 'upload' the site again. So I asked about the SQL and they said oh yeah that is gone too.

So we started again, obviously I have all the style sheets, but the rest was a bit hit and miss. I had the original templates, which were ok, but of course we lost all our text.

This time we keep our own backups.
